The Treasury Department and the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) announced special Federal income tax return filing and payment relief in response to the ongoing Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) emergency.

  • The Federal income tax filing due date is automatically extended from April 15, 2020 to July 15, 2020.
  • Taxpayers can also defer federal income tax payments due on April 15, 2020 to July 15, 2020, regardless of the amount owed. The relief provided is available solely with respect to federal income tax payments (including payments of tax on self-employment income) and federal income tax returns due on April 15, 2020, for the 2019 tax year, and federal estimated income tax payments (including payments of tax on self-employment income) due on April 15, 2020, for the 2020 tax year.

Taxpayers that need additional time to file beyond July 15, 2020 can request a further extension by filing the applicable extension form.

This relief may not apply to state income tax and you should review your state’s guidance relief.
